Tarawih story

Last night at the prayer's hall, my lil one and me sat next to each other when a familiar old lady asked:

Elder woman : "Anak siapa ni?" [Whose daughter is this?] (referring to my girl)
Me: "Anak saya, makcik" [Mine aunty]
Elder woman : "Dah besar yer. Tak perasan makcik. Dulu kecik jer. Bagus dia, senyap waktu sembahyang" [She's big now. I didnt realise. She used to be small. Such a good girl, well behaved while prayers]

The lil one performs Isya together but for tarawih, I usually ask her to sit at the end of the saf, me praying next to her. She usually reads a book while waiting. When she was smaller, she would bring along her colouring book. After she followed the Isya prayer, she would do her own thing quietly. The Makcik remembered that we used to sit at the back.

The lil one always looks forward to the variety of desserts which we have after the prayers. And being me, I just colour coded them when she asks for one; green kueh, yellow kueh. *grins* Sometimes they prepare meals like curry mee, fried rice, briyani etc. My lil one calls these as "proper food".*smiles*

I paid the zakat last night too. I dont know why but each time, there is a tinge of sadness...

It is actually good to bring the kids to the mosque and surau so that these places will be familiar to them as they grow up !

reminds me of my own experience when i was a kid. after 2-4 rakaat, me n my friends would sit at the back of the jemaah and wait for our parents to finish. but i think we were not well behaved like your lil one.. hehe.and the moreh after taraweh was what kept us still @ the surau. LOL
anyway, i blog again, after a long break. now that my kids have finished their exams, i too felt less burden.
so many things happen in your life lately. better continue reading your entries.. take care!

d dear,

You would understand the most. The first time is the hardest and it never gets easier each year. Maybe after a while, we feel ok. Not better, but ok. *smiles*

hi akmal,

Alhamdulillah indeed. I prefer to do it early tho it doesnt make a difference if I pay late. Unlike back home where the queue is long! Senang bayar awal.

U keep well!

Hi syukur,

*grins* U better remember to pay doc.

It is something that we do every year. My lil one remembers the tarawih and eid prayers. She even remembers my signature dish ie pulut kuning. She looks forward each time. *smiles*

Hi Aporn,

Hey u! how has it been?

Oh, my girl is something. When we went back for hols and attended a wedding, people were mesmerized by her beauty and elegance (plus the british accent). It's like she graduated from Swiss grooming school. *smiles*

Might go to Dubai/Abu Dhabi for hols in Oct.

hi ms curvy,

My iftar has always been simple. rice with 2 dishes and 2 types of kuih. Mocha is a must, tho I must say the instant nescaffe mocha is not as close as the Starbucks, Nero, costa etc.

Hi inah,

Jason mraz's songs are really good! A friend introduced it to me 5 years ago and I simply love it!

I missed his performance this year. BY the time I found out, tix sold out. Plus, he was performing during ramadhan. NOt too keen to go.

It's good that you are considerate & pray at d end of d saf, and your little girl is also quiet. When I do terawih at the mosque in my hometown, it is usually something else, children screaming and all...

Ms B said...

Hi Hazia,

My girl understands the need to behave herself and be quiet while prayers.

Some parents bring their kids but often they forget that should the kids misbehave, it's a distraction to others.

Hi darlene,

Thanks.

It is the moment when we recite while paying the zakat, it hits me...

Momster,

My girl is big enough to go. *smiles* Otherwise, we just stay home as it's more convenient for both of us.

She really loves the moreh. Small girl, big appetite. *LOL*
